Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer is part of a team responsible for assuring high service quality standards for ORBCOMM’s customers. Toward this end, the System Engineer will participate in system-wide, engineering level support activities and investigations pertaining to the performance of ORBCOMM’s satellite communications network. Since the company’s flight dynamics responsibilities also reside within the Systems Engineering group, this position also participates in analyses related to satellite coverage and supports operational aspects of satellite orbit determination and stationkeeping.

In recognizing the wide range of subject matter this position spans (from communications networks to orbital mechanics), ORBCOMM is seeking a candidate with excellent engineering analysis skills and a willingness to learn and work in areas that may reside outside the candidate’s traditional areas of expertise.

The ideal candidate would have some formal educational background in both orbital mechanics and satellite telecommunications. Perhaps more important, however, are solid engineering and analysis skills, an appetite for learning, and a demonstrated capability to manipulate and present data. While we are not seeking a programmer/developer, it is expected that the successful candidate will be comfortable creating analysis tools with an eye toward automation. Our current tools make wide use of the following: C, Perl, Matlab, STK, and web-based handling of dynamic data. Our operating environment is chiefly PCs and Unix computer systems.
