ORBCOMM ANNOUNCES CENTRAL AMERICAN EXPANSION WITH LICENSES IN EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, AND PANAMA
--New Licenses Add To ORBCOMM’s Growing Presence throughout Latin America -
Fort Lee, NJ, January 11, 2008 – ORBCOMM (Nasdaq: ORBC), announced today that new regulatory approvals have been issued allowing market entry for ORBCOMM low earth orbit satellite services in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama. ORBCOMM services in these countries will commence immediately. These recently acquired authorizations add to ORBCOMM’s Latin America presence, with regulatory approvals already issued in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela in addition to Gateway Earth Stations in Argentina, Brazil and Curacao. ORBCOMM’s dedicated sales and marketing personnel in the region are poised to market the network in these new territories. ORBCOMM’s global machine-to-machine (M2M) network makes it possible for Value-Added Resselers (VARs), International Value-Added Resellers (IVARs) and OEMs to develop a product using a single global standard with one airtime agreement and no roaming charges.
“Latin America is a very important market for our IVARs and OEMs,” said ORBCOMM’s COO, Marc Eisenberg. “In most cases, these partners have already established sales and distribution channels in these markets and have been eagerly awaiting this announcement. In addition to our IVARs and OEMs, we expect to gain market share by expanding our reseller network with more Latin American VARs and IVARs. We are quite pleased that we are now able to offer our very high quality low-cost services in even more countries and expect additional new country regulatory approvals to be issued in the near future.”
Christian Allred, Sr. Vice President of International at ORBCOMM, added, “Central and South American customers that utilize M2M applications or market them to others, benefit immensely from ORBCOMM’s low-cost data communications satellite network. ORBCOMM enables these customers to rapidly deploy low-cost dedicated M2M networks with the ability to collect telemetry, and track and control remote assets located throughout the world in crowded metropolitan areas, rugged and remote terrain, and even across country borders, all without paying high roaming rates typical of other systems.”
