Network Operations Manager

Location: Kanata, Ontario Canada

A little bit about the role:

The Network Operations Manager will lead, motivate, direct and oversee a small team of engineers to operate a 24/7 global communication system. This role is responsible for the management of our distributed satellite based data communications network consisting of satellite hub equipment located at multiple international locations. This position is responsible for the overall departmental function, providing leadership, coordination, and management of daily operations.

What you can expect:

  • Manage day-to-day activities of network operations team responsible for all aspects of maintaining a global communication system
  • Lead and provide guidance to team members for day-today departmental goals
  • Create and manage standard operation system documentation
  • Coordinate maintenance and system upgrades
  • Scheduling of on-call support to ensure 24/7 availability
  • Proactive management and administration of a complex multi-platform, multi-site product satellite network to ensure availability on a 24/7 basis
  • Troubleshoot servers, network infrastructure and systems to resolve operations issues and restore services
  • Provide routine software and hardware maintenance and operation support for application, OS and third party software
  • Monitor and maintain daily system and application activity logs
  • Monitor and maintain Oracle databases
  • System administration of Linux and Windows
  • Prepare reports for monthly availability, capacity usage, and outages
  • Work cross functionally with various teams including Product Management, Quality Assurane, Network & Global Enginering teams, as well as teams from our service providers

Must-have Skills:

  • 5 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Previous leadership experience in an on call setting providing 24/7 support for critical systems
  • Proficiency in Windows server and Linux
  • Proficiency in networking (Juniper experience preferred)
  • Ability to leverage strengths of others on team
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to deal with constantly changing requirements
  • Superior communication skills including the ability to voice opinions in a constructive and confident manner
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including executive and senior staff, as well as external vendors and subcontractos
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Due to the international nature of our company’s business, this position requires flexible irregular working hours. The successful incumbent will be part of an on call rotation and will be required to be on-call and respond to after-hours network emergencies as required as part of a response team. Candidates are also occasionally required to travel internationally (<20%).
