Rochelle Park, NJ - ORBCOMM Inc., a global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, today announced that Aikai Butsuryu Co., a leading freight transporter specializing in cargo operations for large bulk vessels shipping raw materials and fuel, has selected its industry-leading, solar-powered asset management solution for their container chassis fleet. Based in Ama-Gun, Aichi, Japan, Aikai Butsuryu is using ORBCOMM’s IoT solution to improve their fleet’s operational efficiency and service levels, while optimizing their work productivity.

ORBCOMM’s solution, which features a high-sensitivity solar panel with long-lasting battery life and charging capabilities, enables Aikai Butsuryu to continuously track and manage their container chassis, which have no power supply when disconnected from the tractor. With ORBCOMM’s advanced solution, Aikai Butsuryu can access live and scheduled status updates whether their chassis are in transit, at the distribution center or in the container terminal, so they always know where their assets are located in real time. Through the ORBCOMM platform, Aikai Butsuryu can share details on the chassis’ operational status with multiple users in the organization, including driving history, mileage, maintenance requirements and inspection schedules, improving utilization, turn times, safety and compliance, while reducing costs. In addition, the ORBCOMM devices were installed on the chassis in about 10 minutes, which made Aikai Butsuryu’s deployments quick and efficient with minimal disruption to their operations.
